Mick Softley - She's My Girl (live)

Softley was a friend of Donovan, who covered a couple of his songs. The song credit on the label is not to Softley, however, but to Peter Eden, who was his producer. This track was recorded from the TV by mic to mono tape. Noise reduction and some EQ and compression has been applied. Because the original tape missed the opening second or so, the beginning is copied and pasted from the same phra...

Selected from this full programme: ua-cam.com/video/kl5w9AS7JPI/v-deo.html , recorded for Danish TV in 1975. I've tweaked the aspect slightly and synchronized the audio with the video. To skip the tuning, the false start and the re-tuning - go to 1:28. Also present (L-R), Jan Akkerman, Stefan Grossman and Ralph McTell. Composition by Ralph McTell. From the Russell Harty Show, BBC TV, in advance of 'A Concert of Guitar Music' in aid of the Samaritans at the Barbican Centre on December 18th 1982. Huge thanks to Colin Fowler for the video (originally posted on the Bert Jansch Tribute facebook page) - this has just been tweaked a little to fix the aspect.

Korner, vocal and guitar; with Danny Thompson, bass, and Terry Cox, drums. Played live on UK children's TV programme Five O'Clock Club (ITV). Exact date unknown, probably early in 1966. The page from the TV guide mentions a sextet, but this is just the trio. Thompson is quoted in Harry Shapiro's biography of Korner: "He didn't know a crotchet from a hatchet, and his bungling through Five O'Cloc...

Designed as a companion to the transcription in The Bert Jansch Songbook Vol.2, this details the way Bert played it solo, in various versions following the original Avocet recording. Gordon Giltrap & Bert Jansch - Chambertin demo, 2009

Gordon demos his version, and tries to get Bert to remember how he played the original. This video has been up on youtube for some years - thanks to Geoff Olner - ua-cam.com/video/-_mWY8tASjk/v-deo.html - but the sound drifted out of sync with the video, which made it hard to use it as a reference for Bert's fingering. The sync has now been fixed. See also the lessons elsewhere on this playlist...

Sydney Carter - 4 songs

Sydney Carter (1915-2004) is famous for his popular religious songs Lord of the Dance and One More Step. These four are among his lesser-known compositions, and were broadcast on British ABC TV's Hullabaloo folk music series, on separate dates between October and December 1963. The presenter is Alex McEwen. The songs are mostly topical, but sixty years later those topics, naturally, are histori...

Thank you for posting this, much appreciated.
Amazing find. The only extant footage of him I’ve come across apart from him singing a verse of ‘god bless England’
A lovely little tune. Sweet!
What tuning is used for leaving blues?
Be nice to see the right hand too.
There is a link to the lesson in the comments 😉
Love this gem of the folk scene ❤
Amazing channel. Berts my absolute hero 🙏
The very best of the best. Once heard, never forgotten.
Pentangle playing Jack Orion in a medieval castle surrounded by wheeling gulls is pretty much perfection.
Wow, thanks for sharing, another song discovery new to me from my very favourite musician. RIP Bert 🙏
good wee band🥃🏴
Led Zeppelin!
Thanks again Jan for turning me on to these guys in 1969-70.
"Someone" must compile all these films into a great dvd/blu ray and make it available to the public before we're all dead.
THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL T WATCH AFTER ALL THESE YEARS THANK YOU
SIMPLY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. BRILLIANT AND MAGICAL THEY GOT TOGETHER
Yow.
At age 20 I had a gap year in England-1964-1965-and spent much of it in London’s folk clubs. I saw Sydney Carter perform many times, often in pubs, where the folk club was either in the cellar or upstairs. He rarely sang his religious songs; more likely it would be about trying to give up smoking, proper behavior in shared housing, or the delights to be found in the London sewers. He’d often hold a glass pint of beer at his belt buckle at the same time. Such a sweet man!
Feels like I've seen this a million times, and this is one of the best Pentangle - movies out there. According to the Uncut issue in December 2023 Jacqui seems a bit surprised over all the material on UA-cam that never been released in the 70:s. This is so good!!! Just see them playing cards, while John is playing...and the concert clips. ❤❤❤
wow
Bert could sit there and play guitar all day - I can relate lol!!
Brilliant footage. Met him once. Asked him to sign his album when I met him. He asked my name and said that’s a great name. My heart briefly stopped! No more words needed. What a guy.
does Jacqui ever drop a note?
painfully out of tune
It's open tuning
This takes me back,Cliff lived a few streets away from me in West Croydon,i saw him and Royd Rivers play at the 'Wheatsheaf'folk club at Thornton heath pond.He was a great influence on me.Jim Smith
Whayt an undiscovered gem 💎
Thankyou!
John Renbourn flies over the strings in such a beautiful, dreamy way
Is there any way I can get tabs for this please 🙏

I consider Pentangle one of the best, maybe the first, of the SuperGroups. Is there a documentary that tells how they met & bonded?
I don't know of anything extensive on video or film, but I'd recommend Colin Harper's biography of Bert Jansch, Dazzling Stranger. I have heard Jacqui and John on interviews talking about how they came together. Briefly, Jacqui actually began as jazz fan, and got into folk via the Aldermaston CND marches, and was actually running a folk club in South London by 1966. John had been working with Dorris Henderson, but she returned to the US in 1966 and he began working with Jacqui as a duo, arond the same time he was also playing duo gigs with Bert. Danny Thompson and Terry Cox had been working with Alexis Korner (sample here: ua-cam.com/video/XpJOEPiNjpU/v-deo.html ), and Danny knew John from Les Cousins folk club. In early 1967, Bert and John had their own club at the Horseshoe in Tottenham Court Road, with Jacqui as frequent guest, and invited Danny down to jam, and he brought Terry. They continued to use the Horseshoe residency as a mix of jam and rehearsal. I saw them several times there myself in late '67, and it definitely was as informal as that.
@@Jonprileygreat story ❤
The album “Just Guitars” is superb too.
Merci.
Brilliant stuff!
Magic.
They influenced his sons Ali, Robin and Duncan Campbell who founded reggae band UB40.
wow what a gem!! Who found this love it
That low end note bending has me thinking about Richard Thompson
Jacqui’s voice is spectacular.
Been a fan since 1975 and so thrilled to share this vid with the next generation. Thanks
This footage is fantastic. Beatnik folky Dominic .Superb x.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love The Turk.
Amazing stuff. Great to see a young Swarb.
A respectful audience. Very rare in today’s world
The best by the best. Brilliant music, and I'll say a really well photographed and directed piece. Definitely shot on film!
Bert and Anne. Hope they're playing together again now.
Anne is still alive. 80 years old this September.
Toggle the table of contents Jansch died on 5 October 2011, aged 67, at a hospice in Hampstead after a long battle with lung cancer.[1][77] His wife, Loren Jansch (née Auerbach), died of cancer on 9 December 2011. They are both buried in Highgate Cemetery.[78]
How delightful and moving to see them together. You can hear her in Bert’s music and conversely
fantastic artist ! funny as hell when he caught his key change in the beginning , only a master would laugh and go all in after that !
Why are they featuring a Watneys house. Didn't the Half Moon have a dart board? That was the main reason for starting CAMRA. Watneys, an almost undrinkable beer, it was so awful, were buying up the smaller breweries.
Yes, the Bricklayers was a weird choice - not only because he was talking about CAMRA approvingly beforehand, but that pub is further away from Ralph's house (where he was living then) than the Half Moon is. Maybe it actually sold some better alternatives to Watneys... or maybe they tried the Half Moon and they wouldn't let them film?
He has written at least three songs which have stood the test of time and been covered by singers across the globe. I also heard him frequently on the Light Programme and he formed much of my taste in music. An under-appreciated giant.
He wrote some good songs.
